Pack Out
One of the many joys of a military move is having people pack your stuff....just kidding. While they may pack your household good, you have to pray that it arrives in working condition. Packers will pack literally everything and then some. I have heard of movers packing trash among other things. Depending on what day you are on the list depends on if you are the first load or if they are going to arrive 85-90% full. For us they showed up 85% full. This lead to a one day pack turning into two days. Our stuff was also considered to be overflow. Overflow means that your possessions are put into crates and shipped throughout the country.
When they showed up at our house a week ago, we discovered that we were missing one box, screws to our bed (joy!), and that our washer no longer functioned. Thankfully we are able to put claims in the system.
Driving Across the Country
Driving across the country with a dog in a heat wave was not the hardest, but not the most ideal either. Having a puppy with us meant multiple stops and not being able to go inside. This also meant sitting in a car with the A/C blasting just to make do. We also had to make sure we had a plethora of water with us. Our hottest day was when we were driving from Fort Worth to Lubbock, Texas. Our car said the outside temperature was 109 degrees.
As a native Floridian I grew up with very warm and humid weather. But in Texas, the heat literally felt like we were walking around an oven. It was probably one of the warmest days that I've ever experienced.
Faith and Relocation
Ever since we moved we have been trying to find a church family that feels like home. In Gulf Breeze we were blessed with an amazing group of friends that became our family, and now we are on the journey of establishing a church family here that has a similar feeling. The toughest part is realizing that services here are online, yet the congregations meet in person. I know we are going to find the place for us, but it feels like we are climbing a never ending mountain to obtain what we both need while away from our families. We literally have been trying countless churches praying that the one that suits us is out there.
Unpacking
Unpacking is the never ending process that typically takes a few weeks to a few months. For us we were able to unpack 75% of our house so far. When the military packs and handles your move they use a ton of paper. We had a bag of paper for every box we had. While I understand it is necessary, it is crazy how many trees had to die in order for our stuff to arrive safely.
Model Calls
Since we have officially relocated, model calls will be in the future. I need to update my portfolio to a new location which means I should be doing these sessions very soon. More detail and information will be coming out soon.
